We also got to interview her about her music and views on issues like Fees Must Fall, sexuality in hip hop, Cape Town hip hop and more. She also rapped her “Xxplosive” track live.

We also interviewed Khayelitsha-based emcee, Styles who was there to promote his latest album Talent and Dreams. He also dropped some bars live towards the end of the interview.

Headwarmaz 6 November 2015 (Future Classics)

FutureClassics2

It’s a hip hop head thing (we are all guilty of it) – allowing our nostalgia and veneration of the old school make us overlook the dope shit from this era. The old school was dope, yes, but I believe there’s a lot of great music being made now but it ends up slipping through the cracks because there’s a lot of garbage flooding the scene. But by dismissing the new school completely, you are not helping hip hop grow.

Being a radio show, it’s our job to sift through the bullshit and bring you the best. On last week’s episode, we curated a playlist of tracks from the last two or three years we believe are future classics – basically tracks you’ll still be bumping 10 years from now. With the help of the community, who made their recommendations earlier in the week, we made a list of about 30 future classics. Of course, these aren’t the only ones (there’s loads others) but we only had two hours.

In light of Heritage Day (25 September 2015), we looked back at where South African hip hop came fom through songs.  We know we didn’t play everything (that’s just impossible), so you are more than welcome to criticise our choice, just don’t get so caught up on that and miss out on the good tunes. 🙂 Read more
