Mashayabhuqe

Spending most of his life in rural Kwazulu Natal,Mashayabhqe KaMambagrew up eMandeni then relocated to Eshowe/Nkandla, and later, Durban. He ended up in Johannesburg, chasing his dream of being an artist. In 2008, he was with a kwaito band called Amabhungu but felt it wasn’t enough. In 2010, he started doing dub maskandi (which later became digital maskandi) because he wanted something that defined him and his roots.Zulu warrior chants over pounding trap basslines, pattering hi hats and 808s. The beat is telling one to shake their posterior but the lyrics are austerely loathing skimpily dressed and tattooed women, the way a stereotypical rural Zulu man would. Who exactly sings Shaka Zulu-reminiscent phrases such as “Angeke ul’buse el’kaMthaniya”in autotune? The subject matter encompasses issues such as polygamy, love, betrayal, religion, and money among others. Mashayabuqe KaMamba, the pioneer of digital maskandi, transcends limitations and convention. But what exactly is digital maskandi?

“Umaskandi wase Sandton, basically,” he explains, “It’s a modern maskandi, it’s urban maskandi.”

Nonetheless, the posts are too short for beginners.
Could you please extend them a little from next time?
    Thank you for the post.
